84% of CIOs say agent creation is outrunning IT governance
A Dataiku / Harris Poll survey of 685 CIOs across eight countries found that 84% said employees are creating AI agents and applications faster than IT can govern them. 83% lack standardised agent lifecycle management. Only 21% report full near-real-time visibility into AI costs with attribution by business unit, team or use case.

Agent inventory and lifecycle management are necessary, but they do not by themselves establish authority for consequential machine actions. As the agent population grows, organisations need to identify which agents can create external effects and where those actions are actually authorised.
